Floatation has changed my life completely. Right after the first time I tried floating I knew this was something I would need to do regularly to live a happy life and solve the problems coming my way. So I had two choices, either I become a member of the nearest float center for the rest of my life and live the normal life outside the float tank sessions, or I dedicate my whole life to float and share the opportunity with others. I´m sure the first option would have been a great way to live. But I was/ still am very into this so I chose the later. Now I have floated hundreds of times and each float is giving me new experiences.
What the tank does to you is that it fixes whatever needed to be fixed during that specific period of time. Sometimes it is purely physical. It is the main reason why I feel my body is relaxed and pain free. It isn't until a few days after a float, if some tension in the back or neck starts to come back I do feel truly amazed and appreciative of floatation. Because when you feel great in your body it becomes the natural you and you don't really think about it. It’s not until the tension comes back you know how magical and important that float was to your body.
Floating also can be a great fixation to the state of mind; during every day’s stress, with all the noise and distractions, you constantly jump between thoughts…. even your body and the gravity is a distraction.... When floating nothing distracts you, you are freeing your brain and muscle system from gravity in which it liberates large areas of your brain to deal with matters of mind and spirit. So you first deal with your thoughts. All the stressful thoughts, all the issues that have been bothering you gets sorted out.
And as soon as you deal with your problems, your brain waves shift to a deep relaxed state of mind, called Theta state.
Theta is the brain state where all magic happens. Theta brings forward heightened receptivity, flashes of dreamlike imagery, inspiration, and your long-forgotten memories. Theta can bring you deep states of meditation. in Theta, you may feel your mind expand beyond the boundaries of your body. Theta rests directly on the threshold of your subconscious. It plays an important part in behavior modification programs and has been used in the treatment of drug and alcohol addiction. Theta is also an ideal state for super-learning, re-programming your mind, dream recall, and self-hypnosis.
In this state we are in a waking dream, vivid imagery flashes before the mind's eye and we are receptive to information beyond our normal conscious awareness. So what this does is that it increases creativity, enhances learning, reduces stress and awakens intuition and other extrasensory perception skills.
So for a beginner I would say it normally takes around 40 minutes before you enter the Theta state in the tank. But as you float more often the better you become, so you would achieve this state faster and would be able to maintain it for longer periods of time. There are really no limitations where you can go with your mind.
At the very beginning before I knew about floatation, my life was full of anxiety and I had a mild form of depression, looking for new methods to solve these illnesses was the main reason I have tried floatation.
Surprisingly I almost forgot I had these illnesses at the first place. I didn’t even put any effort on reducing the symptoms of these illnesses, the actual result of regularly floating is that I feel cured. I don’t even think about it anymore. Most of my days I do feel happy, And the scientists in the floating community back this up with the many studies that has been done through out the years.
There are so many things you can use the float sessions for, but as a start, float with no expectations and just let the tank do the job that is needed to be done.
